A word from the designer:
"The grooves engraved in the two rotating boards are called "logarithmic spirals". These two grooves always cross at right angles, and a square hole is formed at their intersection.

The goal of this puzzle is to remove the helix ring that goes through that hole. The inspiration of this puzzle is the morning glory. The puzzle was designed to look like a bud that comes into bloom with twining tendrils. The original concept dates back to 1990, but it has been enhanced with the addition of several tricky features. The theme of this puzzle is 'Flower'".

Wow - Deceptively Challenging
My take? Challenge #1 - getting apart should be rated a 6. Getting it back together, although tricky is a little easier. I wasn't sure about it when I initially bought it though. It didn't appear to be too involved and perhaps less a challenge. I was sadly mistaken as it took me over a month to really figure it out. And that was WITH a hint. I actually stumbled upon a 'false' solution quite quickly but felt it wasn't exactly right due to the fact that it required some amount of pressure - which these puzzles should not. So I looked up the solution online to double-check. Indeed it was NOT the solution. However in reviewing the steps (there are many, btw) I gleaned a single clue. Even with THAT clue, it still took me an additional few weeks to figure out. Lots of deceptive features on this one and for me the solution involved many unconventional configurations. Definitely for the experienced puzzler and for those brave ones who love a challenge.
